Joe Wattys Bar and Seafood Restaurant, Kilronan
Right in the heart of Kilronan is perhaps Inishmore’s best-known hostelry, the family-owned Joe Wattys Bar and Seafood Restaurant. Voted in the top ten pubs in Ireland for live music by Lonely Planet, this friendly tavern has great sessions, a great atmosphere, and a great menu, too!
Serving a range of meals from chowder to burger and chips, and steak sirloin to salads and casseroles, the friendly, traditional pub caters to families and boasts daily specials of local seafood such as lobster and mussels. Joe Wattys is an Aran Islands institution and a must-visit location on your trip!
The Bar, Kilronan
Opposite Aran Islands Knitwear on Cottage Road in Kilronan you’ll find The Bar, a welcoming pub with a fascinating back story. Previously known as The American Bar and, before that, the local priest’s house, The Bar was known as the last place to have a pint before boarding the liner and heading to the US, sometimes forever.
Winner of a 2023 Irish Restaurant Award, The Bar serves a full Irish breakfast until 1 p.m., has a varied selection of lunch and dinner meals, and specializes in Guinness-battered fish and chips. Out front, the large patio is popular in summertime and a wonderful place to sit and watch the world go by, pint in hand!
Tigh Joe Mac, Kilronan
Celebrated for its Guinness and toasties, this cosy bar is the perfect place to stop by for an authentic Irish experience whilst overlooking views of Kilronan pier.
Many locals pay a visit for a chat and a sing song.
The Bayview Restaurant, Bayview House, Kilronan
At The Bayview Restaurant in Bayview House, fresh local seafood is the Special of the Day, every day. Unless, of course, you’d prefer an authentic, stone-baked pizza! It also serves salads, burgers, and an array of hot drinks and delectable desserts.
Featuring traditional Irish food with a distinctly Latin American twist, this lovely dining spot offers excellent flavor and world-class service. It also has an unmissable view of Kilronan Bay!
Teach Nan Phaidi’s, Kilmurvey
On the windswept west side of the island, tucked in by the ancient and imposing promontory fort of Dún Aonghasa, lies Teach Nan Phaidi. This authentic Irish country kitchen café is housed in a cute, thatched cottage, complete with an open fire in the hearth. Expect nothing but warm welcomes, quaint surroundings, and delicious homemade cooking in this timeless, traditional tearoom. This picturesque café could just be the jewel in Inishmore’s eateries crown!
Serving hearty meals and light lunches, including daily vegan and GF options, homemade soup, Irish stew, and freshly baked soda bread typical of the region, lunchtime at Teach Nan Phaidis won’t soon be forgotten. Why not try out your cupla focal while ordering, too? The staff is superb, and the service is second to none!
As you can see, Inishmore offers a vibrant and somewhat eclectic mix of cuisines. While you’re here, be sure to check out the local fare, mostly locally caught seafood, dilsk and other local seaweeds, soda bread, and the delicious and creamy goat cheese produced right here on the Aran Islands!
So, whether you fancy a light lunch, a casual pub menu, or a full-blown four-course fine dining experience, Inishmore has you covered.
Don’t forget to leave room for dessert!
