How to Explore Inis Mór (Inishmore)
Big Island - Inis Mór is the largest of the Aran Islands, spanning approximately 12 square miles. Its stunning landscapes and ancient forts draw visitors who arrive daily by ferry from the nearest mainland port - Rossaveel or from the Biggest Port around Galway Bay - Galway City Docks to soak in the island’s breathtaking scenery and explore its rich history.
The island is compact, making it unsuitable for more cars—but that’s part of its charm! There are lots of roads less travelled on Inis Mór, and it's ideal for a car-free getaway, whether you’re planning a day trip or an overnight stay.
Here’s how you can explore the big island:
- On Foot: Stroll or hike at your own pace.
- By Bike: Cycle along scenic paths.
- Guided or Self-Guided Tours: Book a trip with a local guide or a hop on hop off tour.
